Using Google Reader to Stop Information Overload and improve your efficiency

The Internet is the largest research resource that it has ever been. But while it has many of the problems to be solved to get access to information, it has created new problems that are addressed. Probably the greatest of these is information overload.
To keep up to date with my many areas of interest so that I can run my business efficiently, to understand what is happening in the industry for online content, and still have time for leisure activities, I have to bevery good to filter information.
Over the years I have tried many tools to help me aggregate information online, making it easy to scan, read, store and filter.
The tool that I have finally settled on is the free "Google Reader".
Google Reader allows me to a page to get updates from all the sites that I come to visit regularly. I can scan every headline and first paragraph very quickly. All articles of interest can be displayed in full and then saved or discarded asrequired.
On an average day I can get through 100-plus articles, about an hour.
Who should be Google Reader?
Anyone who regularly visited several sites to keep up to date with news means business and leisure, which I guess almost every Internet user!
If you are a blogger or run a specialist information website, then Google Reader is an essential tool to help you source material for your articles and enable you to date, what has happened in your residenceSector.
Setting up a Google Reader account
Setting up a Google Reader account, so be automatically information from many of the sites that you visit regularly should take about 15 minutes added, if you follow these instructions.
Step 1
Open your browser, go to http://www.google.com/reader and click on the link on the right side that says "Open an account now.
Step 2
The screen should fill out the following basic fields:
o Enter your currentE-mail address – Google will send the confirmation e-mail to this address, so make sure you ask a real and active address.
o select a password.
o Confirm the password.
o Location.
o word verification – This ensures that a real person and not a little bit of internet software!
The screen then shows the "I accept that. Setting up Your Account" button.
Step 3
You will receive an e-mail will be sent to ensure that work and live in your e-mail address and will, goand find it in your Inbox to enable your account. It is sent by accounts-noreply@google.com and will have the subject line "Google Email Verification".
Check your e-mail by clicking on the link in the e-mail. This will open your Google Reader page.
Step 4
If the Google Reader page opens for the first time, you have the option of a 30-second video by clicking on the 'Play' button at the bottom of the video window to see. This is worth itdoes.
Once the video is finished, click on 'Get started by subscription "button. You go to a screen where you begin, some websites can be selected by Google.
Step 5
Google has a few pages into groups – News, Sports, Fun and much more concentrated. I would not bother choosing a bundle. I prefer to select the individual feeds, in which I am really interested.
To do this, click on "Add Subscription" link in the left column. This opens a search field thatRSS feeds, see page add to your reader.
You can search either very specific to apply to the feed to a specific website (to make, for example, "BBC UK Sports News") or to find a much wider feeds on a particular subject area (such as "gardening").
Step 6
Once you select a feed you want, simply click Add identifies the "Subscribe" button. The button changes the moment a yellow mark and the word 'registered'.
At this point it is useful to assignthe food in a folder. How many feeds you add it is much easier to manage your website reader, if arranged in folders. Just click on 'Add to a folder', released under the food once you have subscribed.
Click on "New folder …" and enter into an appropriate category name select – News, Sports, Small Business, etc.
Repeat this process to add more feeds.
Congratulations! You now have a great step towards realizing your information consumption made much more effective.
WithGoogle Reader Page Your Day to Day
Once you set your reader page with multiple feeds, spend some time getting to know how to access the required information.
Here is a quick overview.
Links in the left column
o Click on 'Home' to get a look at the latest three articles from each of your RSS feeds.
o Click on "all items" to all new items, come see how, in chronological order.
o 'Starred items' is the way to save the items ininterested. If you read a single element, a number of options will appear at the foot of the summary. When you click on "Add star", the item will then be saved to the "Starred items" folder.
o 'Shared Items "you can set up your own feed, so other people can tell the article to read. If you receive an item that you select the" Share "by using the link at the bottom of the article summary.
o "Trends" summarizes your reading habits from the RSS feedsYou have listed. I use to remove the feeds that I do not read regularly.
o "Add Subscription" above is covered. It allows you to new feeds, so that they will seek added to your page Reader.
o Add the part of the "Subscription" link is a list of all your feeds. You can read a specific folder, all feeds in that category, or you can select an individual feed to read the latest articles from this site.
Other useful functions
o 'e' can immediatelySend the article header and the summary to a friend. This is a very useful and convenient way, found at the foot of each article summary.
o 'Edit tags' you can search for words to help you, and find a particular item will be added. For example, if you looking for a book you are either all relevant articles 'Book1', so that you could easily find it again could investigated.
o "List View" is a useful feature that allows you to e-mail list articles as an inbox, so you can scan very quicklyto find the titles, items of interest. You can find the "List View" tab in the upper right corner of each page.
Enjoy with Google Reader. I hope that it not only revolutionized, they are much more efficient, but also the way you consume information over the Web.
