The Emergency Room Journey

A few months ago my daughter had a serious fall that broke his ankle. I was almost positive that it is only a bad sprain, but she sobbed and cried, the pain was unbearable and that she was sure she had heard a bone crunch as they hit the ground. It was a Saturday afternoon (of course) and our normal pediatrician for office was closed until Monday. Our only option was a visit to the local ER.

Well, I do not know about you, but for me an ER visit ranks right upto walk over hot coals barefoot and sleeping on a bed of nails. It is a long painful process often to physical and mental pain.

"Can not we wait until Monday," I ask my daughter hysterical.

"You want me to suffer with a broken foot for two days?" She responds in her best voice abused child.

What is worse, the guilt trip by an experienced teenager or the eternal waiting and condescending attitude of a given ER trip? Hmmm, that one of theToughie.

I worked in a hospital, and I know that the ER-qualified professionals and talented group of men and women trained to be treated with gunshot wounds, internal bleeding and sometimes missing fingers or toes. In fact, I am sure that they have decided, in the ER because they like the challenge, which is never too sure, is what makes life terribly threatening emergency comes through the door next to come work.

Perhaps that is why they in debt ridden mothers or get angrysomething more dramatic than young people.

One Sunday evening my younger son, his older brother beaten over the head with a kitchen bar stool made of wood. For fear of a concussion I checked the young victims pupils, and asked such questions are like "you dizzy?" and "Are you sick."

He said yes to both questions, so I rushed him to the emergency room. After waiting to get nearly forty minutes in a waiting room, and to see thirty, a doctor, I was humiliated when theysame boy assured the doctor that he felt good and not a bit sick.

Once the doctor after he gave me that look like over-protective mother-wasting-my-time "that they are all down, I turned me to get my son, who was happy to leave and asked him dressed. "Why did you tell me you were sick?"

He shrugged his shoulders. "I thought it meant hunger!"

As mothers, we detail what was waiting at the ER desk while we sit in the exam room discussionHours and hours with Nickelodeon or Disney Channel runs incessantly in our ears. We are pretty sure that doctors and nurses make fun of us, and ask myself, why not ask the state to test a kind of expertise to be a parent.

Still, if it get a bad cold, a failing kidney, or as in our case, a bruised ankle was feeling much better ten years old minutes after arrival at the ER, the medical staff or so paid. And well paid. You can not go to a doctorOffice or practice and get the kind of tests that are routinely prescribed by an ER doc.

"Let's get an x-ray, CT scan of a lumbar puncture and fourteen vials of blood … and I promise you it will not bring her child in here again when one leg dangling a piece of muscle have."

So, if there is such a pain, the ER visit, and I assure you it is! Why do we keep mothers do it?

The answer is simple … Guilt. Mothers have the unique ability to carry around guilt better thanany other creature, human or otherwise on the planet. What is more, have the ability to present include mothers, all the scenarios, answering questions at the inquest, died when their son or daughter because the headache was found to be a seemly innocent brain eating parasites. And they had just crashed Junior or Juniorette the ER if they have a chance, all at the wake she would not have to stare with dismay and Judgement in the eyes.

Sure, the chance that a child could diefrom a brain eating parasite is quite low, probably less than the lottery win or attacked by a gang of angry Girl Scouts. But if there is any possibility … Do you want the MOM was not careful enough?

What does this mean I still humbled when I my child, as on deaths door, to the ER only to find that her ponytail holder is too narrow to take action. ER docs and will continue their frustration, vent by two hoursTo make a quarter test. (And yes guys, I know you do!)

Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword

Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword Review

Ninja Gaiden
This game is simply amazing. The controls are somewhat intuitive, but it’s easy to get used to especially with onscreen instructions for new moves. The storybook mode is interesting to say the least, but they didn’t forget the left-handed users. Under Options, you can opt to flip the screens for left-handed use. The graphics are top notch, although some of the perspectives are awkward to view. The sound effects are acceptable, but the “voices” are simply grunts, snickers, or short sound bites. Considering modern technology has advanced to the point where I can record 2 hours of 640×480 video footage on a card that is one half the size of a DS cartridge, I’m surprised that the audio is so low-quality on this game. The cutscenes get very annoying because there’s no easy way to scroll past them quickly. The biggest selling point of this game is the intuitive use of the stylus. As a result, I highly recommend you invest in a screen protector. After a few sessions of Ninja Gaiden, my screen protector was scuffed up. The protector helps reduce wear and tear on your touch screen.

Pros: Great gameplay, excellent graphics, unique storybook mode and engaging controls.

Cons: Long cutscenes that can’t be skipped, lackluster audio

Overall: 4/5 stars

Samsung B2430H 24-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor – Glossy Black Review

Quick Review:

PRO: By far the nicest, cleanest picture I’ve ever had using a monitor. Amazing color and clarity, plus supports RGB for older monitors, HDMI for a TV/game input, and DVI for a normal computer display.
CON: No buttons. Front touchpanel not friendly to my ogre hands. While you read this review, you’ll think I’m an idiot for having trouble turning the thing on and getting it to switch to the right display (yes, I tried the ‘power’ and ‘Source’ buttons). But I just might have my comeuppance when you’re sitting in front of a darkened monitor that won’t display anything. Some fiddling/luck/time got it working and it’s been a champ since.

PS: This monitor (at time of review) is listed under 3D monitors on amazon.com. It is not 3D ready for Nvidia’s 3D tech, and at 60Hz, the best you’d get is 30fps 3D, if your graphics card even supports that. However, even though I bought this monitor on the off-chance that it was 3D compatible, I’m still keeping it since it’s so pretty.

System Planning Section and

The team worked like Trojans and have built a system that meets all business requirements, tested it and verified that it meets all the quality standards for them, and they have delivered on time. Now you can sit back and look forward to what a great job that you manage this project too. Well not quite …… Your job is not done until the new system in production and has become responsible for assisting on operations. To get there, you need to plan thecomplete elimination.

Is the system operational?
must be there before planning the cutover are some questions that answers, like: "What the system will perform as in the production environment?", "we have all the information we need to produce?", "Can the new system to support all users have to use it? "These are questions that all should be answered before you are ready for production cutover. Let's tackle the issues in order. The answer to the first question,Obviously, "it is just as good as in the test environment have" You can answer the question because in this way a complete round of tests in a test environment to the production environment has been carried out duplicates in all respects except the presence of the users . This environment is sometimes referred to as a staging area. The server that runs the system should be a clone of the production server. If the system runs in a distributed environment, both host and clientshould be based on a network, which duplicates the production network will be cloned. Often, our new or updated systems must run in an environment with standard operating system and additional "off the shelf" software. Operating systems and software in the OTS, the exact staging environment, what they should in the production environment and all software versions be the same duplicate. Make sure that all the patches that the production system is used also used to the stagingEnvironment.

If your new system to require an upgraded operating system and / or updated software ancillary ensure that the installation is the same operating system, power protection software and patches to the production environment to the staging area. Test your new or upgraded system on the same hardware and software will run on in production is an important part of the test. Software is often behaves differently depending on your hardware / OS combination isruns on. The system can work on the new combination, but may, depending on the environment, so that the full suite of tests should be used to conduct testing in the staging environment.

Most systems today require some information is stored and retrieved. This might be minimal, as a number of user IDs and passwords for user login, or it can require a large comprehensive relational database. must be data that propagated from the previous production environment must be identified, and produced a plan for gathering and install it in the new system during cutover. In the meantime, check in the staging environment should be a record that simulates the production environment to be done as accurately as possible. The data indeed, the production as much as possible to imitate in the areas of scope and distribution. This is usually in systems with a large relational database, by providing a snapshot of production data obtained, translate it, the new data format andLoading into the staging area. This translation is a key to the deadline. During the switching, the process used to load into the staging environment to port must be repeated to translate the data to the new production environment. Not only does the process need to be copied, it needs to be streamlined so, download, translation occur and quickly load.

Your project can not or have not delivered performance improvements. If so, these improvements arereviewed in the staging environment. If no performance improvements were necessary, the agency should be at least as good as the old ones. The tests should measure the performance of frequently used functions under load. For example, if the maximum number of users to support the system needs to 1.000, how fast the 1000 is logged? Benchmarks should be specified in the areas of performance, load, and stress tests and trials against these benchmarks should be carried out in the stagingEnvironment. Only if all targets met or exceeded, you are ready for the switch.

Are the users ready?
The system can be ready for the users but the users ready for the system? New systems in general provide new functionality that requires the economy to new demands of the market to fulfill a need to reduce costs, performance improvements, users must be so prepared, so that the advantage of the new system once it is turned on. New functionalityusually means training the user community, but they must also be communicated with, so they know when the new system is implemented. Cutting without notification of the user community, even a trained user community will be to assist in a flood of calls results.

Cutting and require a window in which neither new nor old systems are available. This is especially true for systems that use large amounts of data. The data must be frozen, that they are downloaded from the old system, translated, and loaded on the new system. Users have no access to the data during this period should be as be notified, so they can plan in advance for the period of inactivity. Cutting the new system will operate during normal working hours without notifying the user community certainly solve a spate of calls to support and can cause more damage because a deadline is not met. Your date is also a bulletin from the shutdown of the old system but your user community shouldTraining in the cutover process prior to the bulletin.

The cutover plan
Work that can be done without affecting the production environment should be made in advance of the changeover. Tasks such as hardware installation, system database, operating system installations, software installations, all carried out prior to the actual date. The cutover plan must identify and plan all activities that must occur at the time of switching. Cutover of new systemsreplace the existing will typically require during the switch to the off-peak hours to happen. Time should be identified by your plan. Zero Hour marks the beginning your activity cutover. The plan should also include the activity is to be carried out, the prime responsibility and the amount of time that the task. Identifying a backup to the prime will be an additional security.

The first task is the bulletin notice to the user community that the shutdown will occur at zeroHour. You can receive more than one issue bulletins to ensure that all users of the application (ie, users who log on 30 minutes not receive before shutting down the bulletin, send 1 hour before closing). The next task is downloading data from the production environment. The download, translation and the loading of data should define the procedures for the examination.

There are different ways of approaching the results: a new production environment, and in the old,Use of existing production facilities and reverse environmental staging and production environments. Whatever approach you take to determine your next steps and how much money the organization needs to spend on the system and how mission critical the system are affected. The provision of a new production environment and retirement of old or the interchange of the staging and production environment, it allows you to perform activities such as hardware installation, database installations, software upgrades, etc.before the deadline. Conversion of existing production environments is likely to make the necessary to carry out these activities during the changeover. Each activity should be demonstrated in the staging area and time so that adequate time can be estimated for your cutover plan. Since the objective here is to limit the amount of, try to schedule as many activities as possible parallel without risk of disturbance. Once the production environment has been updated, the load can translateData.

The next step should be a "smoke test" to be the new production facility. The smoke test should be thorough enough to ensure that no steps have been taken cutover missed but enough streamlined so that it can be done in a relatively short duration. User logins are always a good candidate for smoke tests. Any work that is often done by the users is another.

The final step will be to any OS updates are necessary to users to the new system and the message that the systemis ready. This bulletin is also an opportunity for users of any changes in the system information, such as version, new features, etc. Set the new version some obvious points and the user does not have documentation describes the upgrade in your bulletin. Arrange a time for the new system being monitored by the deadline. Since most of the editing and use occur during off-peak hours, supervision should be the last situation, at least until the system is experiencing a peak use, for example, on a MondayMorning.

Your plan should always be tested on the staging area to ensure that it is complete (ie, all activities needed to be identified) and that they remain appropriate. If the team on a Tuesday when no 1:00-has difficulty completing a task in the neck at 10:00, they will fail if they try it, looks at midnight on Saturday with the VP Operations.

Rollback strategy
I mentioned concerns that are a smoke-testing and monitoring of vital importanceParts of the plan? What happens when the smoke test fails or when monitoring indicates an unacceptable level of degradation system during peak usage? The answer is a rollback. The rollback to the previous system and data to the production environment and are the same cutover. The rollback strategy will depend approach used by the switch. If the production environment need to be modified to be rolled back or is it simply a matter of installation of the old database and data in the staging areaand pointed to it users? The rollback strategy should plan with the change to ensure that it functions to be tested. This may seem like a lot of work, especially since you are probably rolling on the staging area back to the front before cutover, but it's worth the effort especially on mission critical systems.

And finally
The change plan should including the rollback strategy to be reviewed with SMEs from previous section and the support group. SMEs from pastCut and are a valuable source of information about what works well in your organization and what is not working well. Lessons learned are more valuable information, but the authors of the lessons are still valuable. The support group bears the brunt of any slip in the planning or execution of the results should then feel comfortable that the plan does not have any steps in the absence and the execution is to deliver a supportable system if the handover happens post switching.

TheCutover plan will be a key deliverable will be at the Gate Review Meeting, or pre-gate meeting, held to determine readiness for cutover. The change plan is not as important a contribution to the peak time to the project on time completed, but the attention to the details of this plan even before the results will be worth your efforts seem. Failure to focus attention on this critical deliverable is output all the hard work of the team around you has to come at this point to pay spoil. No matter howthe team during the remainder of the project carried out to be a disaster cutover time remember, long after the good work is forgotten. A bad cutover is like a fumble on the goal line at the Super Bowl. The running back gained 150 yards may have during the game, but will remain for costing his team the game with his fumble in memory.

The progress and the easy availability of new and useful technologies today have enabled thousands of organizations worldwide to implement and too much on technology for their business needs. Information technology (IT penetrated), and has immense advantages in the smallest of organizations. Nowadays it is not possible, every organization, whether small or large, are run without the use of specific computer or telecommunications-related technology. Today, many organizations can afford itto the necessary computers, software, telecommunications, etc., to buy for the operation of their businesses. But they do not understand the need to manage their IT implementation or ongoing maintenance properly by a number of reasons, including lack of relevant knowledge. For example, a small industrial business owners a single computer to buy first for general use. After seeing the benefits of using computers, he can immediately decide to buy 25 more for its employees. Within a short time, hisCompanies in the IT and IT support headaches will soon enter the business. With a computer can be easy, but maintaining a computer system is a complicated task. Users may experience a sudden crippling virus attacks, equipment failures, software licensing, data corruption, data loss, backup problems, upgrade issues, and so on. They may not be able to support and maintain a computer network to function properly. Overnight, a Smart Purchasing Assistant cana crash course in computer maintenance through, or buy a book called "computer maintenance for laymen," and soon will be responsible for the technical support of the business are given together with its other tasks. This, as IT departments begin in thousands of organizations. However, this type of approach to the main issues and cause uncontrollable later.

As already mentioned, no modern organization carry out their operations or to survive without one or more computers,Software, telecommunications, Internet and so on. involved in terms of technical complexity, it will be able to bring more IT related problems and risks that result in minor to major irritation or even an organization to stop abruptly. If a critical computer system then stops, companies are virtually shut down, because it is not possible to switch on alternative manual processes for some time. Secondly, today's computer systems and networks are extremely complicatedeach company to get people or support them on their own. The use of information technology is a Catch-22 situation. You can not live with it, nor can one live without them. Therefore, a specialized technical support team is aware of IT service management is necessary to understand how these systems work and how they sit baby. Today is a professional technology support department is as important as a qualified finance department or senior management for any organization. From a nuts and boltsPerspective means the IT Service Management "techies" (employees or outsourced) in the organization of professional management and maintenance of computer, networking, telecommunications, data storage, retrieval, e-mail systems, databases, etc, owned or used by your business. If the technology you use for your business is able to bring in an appropriate way your company in serious difficulties to be managed. The following examples show the pinpricks and hair rising issues organizations face withoutProfessional IT Service Management.

1.Your end-users do not know who to contact if their computers and other IT equipment have become ill.

2nd Your participation in Techie Consumer occasionally asks if they can, if they can.

3rd Business managers do not understand why their IT infrastructure always breaks of a similar nature.

4 Monday morning chaos. All computer systems down for any reason. Your Techie probably carried out some maintenance activities onthe weekend.

5th Companies can not commit on their products and services, its external customers.

6.Your end-users do not know if all the IT services is for them every day and are available to carry out their activities.

7th Viruses, deforming and lengthy shutdowns IT, etc, are common.

8th End-users always face a lack of computers, disk space, data corruption, data loss, etc.

9th Business managers do not know why they need to shell out another bag of cash for someSoftware, the IT department needs.

Although organizations free to their own proprietary flavor of the technical assistance needs have his fits, it's always better to adopt some international best practices, as they prevent organizations from re-invent the wheel. This is where ITIL or the IT Infrastructure Library helps. However, once the word is mentioned, ITIL, overburdened and overwhelmed, many IT departments and business people present all sorts of views, such as it is scary to start abureaucratic process, it is very complex, it must be very theoretical, etc., which can only add to their suffering, instead of reducing it. The fear is understandable, as ITIL was created by a public organization (Office of Government Commerce, UK Government, UK), as opposed to something like Six Sigma, by a Fortune 500 organization that created led by a glamorous CEO was.
